I Have Nothing

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.
When he finished, one of his disciples said to him,
"Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."
He said to them, "When you pray, say:
" 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation. ' "
Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend,
and he goes to him at midnight and says, '
Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and

I have nothing to set before him.'

"Then the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me.
The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed.
I can't get up and give you anything.'
I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread
because he is his friend, yet because of the man's boldness
he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
 "So I say to you:

Ask

and it will be given to you;

seek

and you will find;

knock

and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives;
he who seeks finds;
and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish,
will give him a snake instead?
Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
If you then, though you are evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father in heaven
give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Luke 11:1-13 niv

I was reading the verses above
this morning.

As usual, floating around in my head
are the concerns I often
think about.

Mothering is a huge task.

As I read the verses above,
these words jumped off the page:

"I have nothing!"

I want my kids to speak to each other in love.

I want peace to fill my home.

I want my kids to hunger for God and
live their lives in His power and strength.

I want to produce Spirit fruit in my life.

I have nothing
that will cause any of this to happen.

Over and over in His Word
God tells us to come to Him.

He knows I have nothing.

He wants to give me
everything I need.

I simply have to come to Him.

We have a great high priest, who has gone into heaven,
and he is Jesus the Son of God.
That is why we must hold on
to what we have said about him.
Jesus understands every weakness of ours,
because he was tempted in every way that we are.
But he did not sin!
So whenever we are in need,
we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God.
There we will be treated with undeserved kindness,
and we will find help.

Hebrews 4:14-16 cev

We have a great high priest who is in charge of God's house.
So let's come near God with pure hearts
and a confidence that comes from having faith.
Let's keep our hearts pure,
our consciences free from evil,
and our bodies washed with clean water.
We must hold tightly to the hope that we say is ours.
After all, we can trust the one who made the agreement with us.

Hebrews 10:21-23 cev

Absolutely beautiful. And totally true. Your heart comes through on this so wonderfully, I yearn to be there before the Father with you. Isn't it fun to know that we know that He is so in love with us and wants us to be near Him?
